Quantum Capital Partners ("QCP") announced today that Paper Mill Holding GmbH, a company of Quantum Opportunity Fund II GmbH & Co. KG, has acquired a majority stake in Papresa S.A., a leading manufacturer of newsprint in Southern Europe, to implement a comprehensive plan for industrial conversion to new, growing products. Quantum will maintain the Papresa workforce, expand the current product offering, advance internationalization towards the Asian market, and expand its own distribution network in Europe.

The targeted industrial diversification is being driven by the significant decline in global demand for newsprint over the past five years, triggered by the increasing digitization of the information and publishing industry. Starting with the change of ownership, Papresa is now implementing an ambitious conversion program towards rapidly growing packaging products, increasingly used by the e-commerce industry to reduce the use of plastic and improve the environmental compatibility of packaging. Miguel Sánchez has been appointed as the new CEO of Papresa. Previously, Mr. Sánchez was the Managing Director at Barcelona Cartonboard - formerly a Quantum Group company - where he led a successful turnaround process that brought the company back into profitability.Miguel Sánchez on his appointment as CEO: "Papresa is a wonderful company with an exceptional and capable workforce. I am confident that together we will take the company to the next level by increasing international presence, expanding the product portfolio, and improving ecological sustainability". In line with this statement, Quantum has committed to making Papresa a leading company in ecological sustainability in this sector through a sustainable growth strategy. Therefore, Quantum has set the goal of optimizing the environmental efficiency of all company processes. Papresa, currently the eighth largest paper manufacturer in Spain, generated a total revenue of EUR 140 million in 2019, with an EBITDA of EUR 21 million. The company, based in Errenteria, Gipuzkoa, employs 222 people and currently has the capacity to process 375,000 tons of paper per year.
